Fezjo is an adopted child who knows nothing about his own mother – mother number zero, as he calls her. He isn’t all that interested in her. Until he meets a girl, that is. She is curious to know everything. Why did Fezjo’s mother part with him? Does he have his flair for drawing from her? Does his real mother happen to be a famous artist?
That’s all very well, but Fezjo has his doubts. His mother might be a terrible woman, for all he knows. A baglady, or a stranger on the train. There’s only one way to make sure: Fezjo sets out in search of the answers to all those questions.
Mother number zero is based on the author’s own experiences as an adopted child.

Meta’s mother has yet another boy-friend: the Icelander Bjarni. Meta has made her mind up, she isn’t going to like him.
During a trip to the inland of Iceland she is surly. Iceland is rough and desolate and there is nothing much to do.
But slowly but surely Meta grows closer to Bjarni. He tells ancient spine chilling tales and it’s great being with him. When Meta’s mother and Bjarni quarrel more and more Meta doesn’t know what to do. When the journey threathens to stop prematurely she realises she doesn’t want to lose Bjarni. How should she behave towards her mother?
Things are getting complicated.

Kiek’s father is a doctor who works for an international aid agency. Now he’s been sent to a distant war zone. Kiek is worried. What if he gets killed? Her mother explaines there’s hardly a chance something like that will happen. Kiek wants to make the chance even smaller. She knows one child with a dead father, and one child with a dead mouse. And one child with a dead dog. But a child with a dead mouse, a dead dog and a dead father is something you won’t find very often. Kiek needs a mouse.
