Cinderella is part 9 in a series of picture books (with CD) launched by Gottmer Publishers in a partnership with Universal Music. The story of Cinderella has been adapted frequently and sometimes quite radically. I enjoyed putting all those versions side by side. I have tried to stay as true to the music as I could – and to the story it tells. There’s an old begar women who turns out to be a fairy and a nice romantic ending in a magic garden. Martijn van der Linden drew the illustrations and Dutch actress Kitty Courbois reads the story on the accompanying CD. Prokofiev’s music (Cinderella op. 87) is performed by the Russian National Orchestra directed by Mikhail Pletnev.
